CREST Discovery Award AccreditationDendrited from CREST Discovery Award Accreditation by Mark 07.01.2019
We are delighted to announce that Fly To The Line has been accredited by the British Science Association at CREST Discovery Level.
Discovery Awards offer an introduction to real project work and give students the freedom to run their own investigations. They can be completed in one day, or over a series of lessons, with students working together in self-managed groups.
Students taking part in Fly To The Line engage in a wide range of science and engineering activities to design, test and improve the performance of their gliders. They learn to use a variety of measuring and cutting tools safely and carry out practical investigations and tests as they explore concepts around flight, air resistance, forces and gravity. Teams that win at school stages, go forward to regional finals where they will make and fly new gliders to compete for a place at the National Finals of Fly To The Line encouraging reflection and driving design improvements.
NEXT STEPS FOR A SCHOOL:
CREST Discovery Awards are assessed by a teacher or group leader, usually at the end of the activity. Students applying for a CREST Discovery Award need to complete around 5 hours of STEM activity. They record and reflect on their work during the project, using the online CREST Discovery passport, and communicate their findings as a group presentation.
For a fee of £3 (free in Wales) students will receive a personalised award certificate from the British Science Association which can contribute a student’s STEM portfolio.
